Not that I think I’m better or worse than anyone who isn’t. I just always feel like I’m the only one here.

…don’t ever forget that!
And don’t say “I’ll never be good”. You can become better! and one day you’ll wake up and you’ll find out how good you actually became.

He really just makes me smile.
Me too.
Remember, you can. I got your back, folks.
i saw this on facebook and it instantly irritated me. i told my friend about it and she agreed. then we had a good rant. and now i’m going to tell you why:
this whole “independent black woman” thing, i believe is a hoax that is meant to and has succeeded in dehumanizing both black women and men. the statement “i don’t need a man” can basically be translated to “i don’t need a counterpart, i don’t need a partner, i don’t need love”. this isn’t true. it isn’t true of anyone. yet the idea of black women not needing love has become a glorified one, to the point that society wants us to believe we are actually stronger and better off without our male counterparts.
Even beyond the relationship aspect, this statement sells black men short in every aspect…as father’s, brothers, cousins…it sells them short as just basic functioning members of society. it dehumanizes them…makes them seem worthless. and if their female counterparts believe they’re worthless, why should anyone else believe anything different?
if you wanna call me conspiracy sister, go ahead! lol but as someone who basically grew up in private education, i don’t find it a surprise how black men are INTENTIONALLY not present. the ratio of black females to black males in my highschool for example was probably about 70/30. And the ones that were “selected” to attend, either lacked understanding of culture (both theirs and others) from the get go or had the understanding weaned out of them.
as you can probably tell, i could go on…and on, but i’m gonna cut this short right cheare.
The bolded is EXACTLY what that shit is. It is a dehumanizing and bullshit concept that is straight up from the Sapphire stereotype that essentially makes black women out to be the supermules of the world that can take any and all pain and suffering.
Fuck that. I’m vulnerable. I’m fragile. And I need love and protection.
I understand the Sapphire stuff, I really do. The macro is problematic as hell.
But at the same time I’m real fuckin tired of how heterosexist this entire discussion is
I’ve been seeing this all over Facebook, to. The worst is when a white person posts it. Instant unfriend.

Can I just say how excited I am about an upcoming film starring Idris Elba, Michael K. Williams, Giancarlo Esposito, and Erykah Badu? There is no way this won’t be amazing.
Shooting will begin soon on what promises to be the okayplayer answer to a spaghetti western epic They Die By Dawn, a black cowboy opera conceived and directed by Jeymes Samuel AKA The Bullitts–maker of Jay Elec beats and writer of Estelle songs, in addition to his own prolific musical and cinematic output. The film is based on the real lives of four African American cowboys and the all-star, all-black ensemble cast is slated to includeThe Wire co-stars Idris Elba and Michael K. Williams as well as Giancarlo Esposito, Rosario Dawson and Erykah Badu! Filming begins in early May on location at the famous western town Melody Ranch in L.A. and I’m told some more big names will be confirmed in the next few days.
